He sends one of yours to the hospital. You send one of his to the...church.

On December 30, 1918, Al Capone and Mae Josephine Coughlin were married at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in our neighborhood. The Carroll Gardens natives moved to Long Island a year later to raise their son Albert Francis Capone. Al and Mae were married for nearly 30 years until Al was gunned down by federal agents in a Chicago speakeasy. *

* That last part was a lie. If you ever read a book on Al Capone, do yourself and skip the last chapter. Spoiler alert: Syphilis.

Mrs. Robinson's Neighborhood

Instead of taking 5 million of the same photo in different locations. We could easily stay home and digitally swap out the backgrounds. Or Erik could get a tripod, I guess. We're certainly not trusting the guy renting the boats. He could bolt at any minute!

We could probably just use photoshop.

Instead of taking 5 million of the same photo in different locations. We could easily stay home and digitally swap out the backgrounds. Or Erik could get a tripod, I guess. We're certainly not trusting the guy renting the boats. He could bolt at any minute!

Way scarier in person . . .

They look harmless, almost majestic in this light. But let me tell you something . . . when these giant geese surround your paddle boat in the middle of Prospect Park, you'll know the true meaning of fear.

Ok . . . maybe that's just me and my lifelong fear of swans, geese, and all other large birds. Thanks Mom!

Somebody's favorite Beatle is Ringo.

Well, Mr. Starr was very popular and he did get the most fan mail but naming your company after "Octopus's Garden"?  Maybe "With a Little Help From My Squids" was taken.

Erik wishes we had a back yard.

Just so he could pay this guy to come over and paint a mural on our back wall. Frankly, I can't blame him.

Wow . . . please take a closer look.

Normally I don't like to break the fourth wall like some people who write on this account, but you need to click on that little magnify lens and enlarge this photo RIGHT NOW! Did you do it? Did you see the detail? It's absolutely amazing. This is exactly what a litter bug should look like . . .

Who designed this sign and why were we not aware of it sooner? Please note: this is a city sponsored sign and not some hipster attempt at artsy commentary.

What a ham.

As Karen and Erik were walking around Red Hook, Erik tried to get some shots of the industrial waterfront grittiness the area has to offer. Shot after shot *ahem* someone (and her torch) just couldn't stand not being the center of attention. Does this lady take a break? I mean, come on.

Some day we'll make it all the way to Hollywood!

Another grey and rainy day here in Brooklyn. Choosing to ignore the rain, we went for a "little" 7 mile walk that eventually landed us in Red Hook staring at the water and this sign erected by IKEA. Mrs. Burg has to admit, when she first saw how far away we were from CA she was a little sad to be so far away from handles of Jerry, the Superfriends and cheap sushi.  Then she turned to the right, saw the Statue of Liberty staring at her and promptly got over it.

Where's Karen?™ at Washington Square Park

This Labor Day, Karen and Erik went to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. The park has undergone some major renovations in the past couple years. Can You find Karen?

Karen & Erik at Washington Square Park

As Karen and Erik approached 100 pictures on their Flickr account, many ideas were bandied about as to exactly what the 100th picture would be. Maybe Karen and Erik holding up some sort of sign that said "100."...perhaps Karen wearing a balloon hat with "100" on it....or Karen on a motorcycle jumping through one of two zeros in a fiery "100" sign.
In the end, it was decided that simpler was better as you can see by this shot taken in Washington Square Park today.

Erik is looking into renting a Moto Guzzi and asbestos suit for shot #1000.
